Having excess fatty tissue above the hips is a common concern for many men and women. Often called “love handles” or a “muffin top,” this fullness can cause the sides to protrude over the waist of one’s pants, creating an unwanted shape to the midsection. This fat accumulation in the abdomen and hips is incredibly normal, but it can make many people feel self-conscious about their body. When this stubborn fat won’t seem to respond to diet and exercise, Dr. Neil J. Zemmel and his team at Richmond Aesthetic Surgery often recommend the non-surgical procedure known as CoolSculpting®.
With CoolSculpting the love handles can be targeted for fat reduction, helping to create a smoother shape to the hips and abdomen. During the CoolSculpting procedure, applicators are placed on the love handle area, and suction is applied. Controlled cooling energy is then delivered to the target area to destroy the excess fat cells. Over the course of about 4 to 6 months, the love handles begin to gradually decrease in size as the excess fat is processed out of the body.
Depending on the size of your love handles and what you hope to achieve with CoolSculpting, you may benefit from a series of sessions to achieve optimal results. For more extensive fat reduction needs, liposuction surgery may be recommended for more dramatic improvement.
